The Tanzania Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA) is a bi-national railway providing both freight and passenger services between Zambia and Tanzania. The two Governments of Zambia and Tanzania hold equal shares in TAZARA, which operates as a statutory body established by the TAZARA Act of 1995. Headquartered in Dar es Salaam and covering 1,860 kilometers, TAZARA has offices on the Copperbelt, Lusaka, Central, Northern, and Muchinga provinces of Zambia, while in Tanzania the railway runs from Mbeya, Morogoro, Njombe, Coastal, and Dar es Salaam regions. The mining companies in Zambia and DRC form TAZARA’s major customer base, moving both their bulky products and mining inputs by rail.
